The Food Chronicles - Maple Pumpkin Pie with Salted Pecan Brittle

Wishing you and yours a very lovely holiday weekend.  One of the highlights yesterday, aside from spending the day with my dearests and frigid impromptu late night sparklers was this maple pumpkin pie with salted pecan brittle.  For serious.  It is the cover pie on the November 2013 issue of Better Homes and Gardens.  I would link to the recipe but after too many clicks and fruitless searches on BHG.com, I gave up.

Decided to make it yesterday morning on a whim and I am so glad that I eschewed our normal pumpkin pie for this.  The maple flavor in place of the typical trio of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves is aces and makes it dessert-worthy of the entire holiday season, not just Turkey Day.  Find yourself a copy of the November issue and try it.  You won’t be disappointed.  The sea salted pecan brittle alone is crazy good and I hate brittle.

Chez V Online Flash Sale - Handmade Wood Serving Boards

Welcome to my online flash sale!  Up for sale today are handmade one-of-a-kind wooden serving boards.  These limited edition boards are all made from single pieces of 200+ year old wood recovered from my husband’s old family farm, 20 Mile Farm - hence the name 20 Mile Boards.  Each one is unique with graining, knots, cracks, and spalting – the lovely black veining you see in some of the boards.

This sale will be handled through email and Paypal.  Please take a moment to read the information about the boards as well as the flash sale instructions before purchase.  All boards are sold AS IS.  Please note, some boards have cracks or splits.  This is normal as old wood dries.  Click the email links below each picture to email me or simply send an email directly to me at emilyDOTnickellATgmailDOTcom.

**UPDATE**  Boards are going quickly so include 2nd & 3rd choice in your email to increase your chances of snagging a board!

These boards are special to us as they are a piece of history to our family and we only have a limited quantity left of the 20 Mile Farm wood.  My husband’s grandparents bought the farm in the late ‘30s, and my husband’s parents took over the farm in the late 60s, after returning from the Peace Corp in Africa.  His parents sold the farm in 2000 to developers, so sadly it is no longer, but they salvaged as much old wood as possible from the land.  As a wedding gift, my husband's parents made us a butcher block island for our kitchen from the wood - which is the most used piece of furniture in my house!  And now we are making boards and bowls with what remains.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!

Happy Turkey Week and all that.

Cocktails & Nosh and Pop-Up Sale Announcement!

That’s right folks!  Giddy up and mark your calendars.  Next Tuesday I will be holding an online pop-up sale right here on the Chez V blog for these 20 Mile serving boards.  The blog won out as the platform of choice – thanks to all who provided input!  I will cover the details in full on Monday but the gist basically boils down to first come first serve like many flash sale sites.  Keep in mind quantities are limited.  Sale will go live at 11am EST, next Tuesday, November 26th.  For this run, I have about 18 boards left, on hand.

In the meantime, I will leave you with some pretty images of how I typically use one of my boards for cocktails and nosh.

Cheers to Friday!

20 Mile Boards - handmade wooden serving boards

For those of you who follow me on IG (and if you are not, you should!) you will be very familiar with the many wooden serving boards I use when entertaining or even when the mr. and I are enjoying a little nosh. They are so handy and create a nice, simple moment.  Cheese and charcuterie are instantly elevated on the rustic boards.  Everyone always asks about where I got my wooden boards and are instantly bummed when I tell them that my in-laws made them for me from 200+ old wood from their family farm.

Well, I am happy to announce that soon, you too will be able to nab a board of your own.  I have been splattering IG with tiny sneak peaks and here is another peak at these serving boards.  These are limited edition boards made from single pieces of 200+ old wood all hand done and treated with food safe bee’s wax.  I have named them the 20 Mile boards as that is the name of my husband's family farm from which the wood came.

They are one of a kind and very limited as we only have so much wood left with which to work.  Each board is different based on the piece of wood.  Right now, I have roughly 15 boards that will be available.  I am not sure yet whether I will do a flash sale on my Chez V FB page or do it right here on the blog via pay pal.  Here’s where you come in, which method would you prefer?  Back tomorrow with more in depth details on the boards.

Help a shop-challenged sister out!

Friday Fun Nuggets and Some Chez V Love

Happy Friday!  So I have a few fun nuggets to share with you today. First, I promised you kind folks the great story about locating the elusive Ranarp sconces for my ORC bedroom.  If you will recall from this post, both Elizabeth from Little Black Door and myself were feverishly hunting for them as they were sold out EVERYWHERE. Well pretty please with sugar on top kindly head on over to Little Black Door for Fess Up Friday to hear our story about locating the coveted Ranarps through the kindness of strangers!

Next up, my ORC bedroom is being featured on a little house tour over at Julia Ryan, the brilliance formerly known as Pawley's Island Posh. Um, major!   Please go check it

Moving right along, the lovely Linda, blogger extraordinaire of Calling It Home and mastermind behind the One Room Challenge tagged me yesterday on one of those THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME kind of posts.  So I need to get on that pronto.  Maybe two posts in one day?!  Oh who am I kidding – all this love is going right to my big fat head.  Answers coming soon!

So, yes, I'm feeling pretty legit right about now with all this Chez V love because I have massive respect and admiration for these uber talented lady friends.  To be featured on their blogs is huge for little ol' Chez V. Forgive me the humble brag!  This ORC has been a lot like The Giving Tree, just keeps giving and giving.

And finally, to pass the love on, I was so happy to hear that Scot Meacham Wood is getting an editorial of his swoon-worthy home in the December issue of House Beautiful.  Seriously.  This man can layer a room like no other!  And that wall color!  Gah!  What a design talent!  So well deserved Scot!  Can not wait for mine to arrive in the mailbox!

So again, Happy Friday folks!  Go spread the love today!
