Before I get to the sources, let's talk tablecloth.  THE. TABLECLOTH.  Be still my beating maximal heart.  This fabric kicked off my entire color scheme for the kitchen and I was seriously bummed when I found out it would not be completed in time for the reveal.  But it was oh so worth the wait.  I could not love it any more if I tried.

Seriously.  I was so smitten when I picked it up from my seamstress that I briefly considered ditching the whole tablecloth idea in favor of wearing it like a caftan, in a gloriously  insane Scarlett O’Hara meets Auntie Mame kinda way.  It checks every box for me.  Chintz – check.  Chinoiserie – check.  Bright colors – check.  Vibrant pattern play – check.  Dressmaker details – check.  My incredibly talented seamstress turned my vision into reality.  I came to her with gobs of fabric and an idea of a floor length skirt including Greek key trim and a contrast welt to ground the pattern.  She, in turn, worked her magic and created a stunning masterpiece.  The pleating alone quickens my pulse.  Soooo worth the wait.

The Big Reveal - WK6 ORC Challenge

The big day is here kiddos and the big question is, ‘did she or didn’t she get that damn room painted?!’  I know, I know, enough about the damn paint already.  First things first, a huge shout out to my mother from another mother, Linda from Calling it Home for orchestrating the ever popular ORC and for extending the link up opportunity.  What a great and terrifying ride it has been.  Sort of nervous for the big reveal but I super love the results and now have a enveloping sanctuary to retire to at day’s end.  I feel like it is very close to the original design plan I put together.  To start from the beginning, click the links below:

I chose our master bedroom for the makeover as it has been woefully ignored since the day I moved in to Chez V 8 yrs ago.  I operated with a major budget and all the work was done by the V’s – meaning the mister, myself, and my in-laws.  Most of the items are vintage, having been collected over time and borrowed from other areas of my house and others are from discount places like IKEA, Home Goods, Home Emporium, RugsUSA, and Tuesday Morning.  Almost all the artwork I have had for some time with the exception of the incredible Jenny Andrews Anderson piece of MFAMB which I purchased late one night a few weeks ago and seriously, it is everything - it is my 4th piece of hers and I just love her work so.  I purchased the African etchings that are hanging above the bed 7 yrs ago, knowing that the right opportunity would present itself and they turned out to be perfect for the Old World chinoiserie safari vibe I had in mind.

 

I created a dragon block print for lumbar pillows, handpainted gold detailing, and made tassels to give them a little extra oomph.  I am also happy to report that my lighting sitch turned out spectacularly. The coveted Ranarps were located thanks to Elizabeth of Little Black Door, I succeeded in turning the vase I found at a consignment shop into a lamp, and the foo dog bedside lamps provide a humorous counterpoint to the oh so amazing scene stealing chandelier, which I located at an antique mall months ago and with which I am having a full on love affair.  But enough with the details, more pictures…

Many thanks to you for checking in with me each week.  Your support has been pivotal in keeping me on track.  I would be totally remiss if I did not thank my husband and my in-laws, without whom none of this would have come together.  To my mommacita, for instilling your hoarding tendencies as I was able to pull this room together with mostly collected and childhood items as well as a few of yours. ;)  And last, but certainly not least, to my 5 yr old who patiently put up with my craziness this week and gladly ate PB & Js 4 nights in a row.  Muchas gracias mi familia!

WK5 ORC Updates

WK5 of the ORC link up is here and I am going to keep this one short because I am not even close to finishing Project Chinoisy Safari Chic aka my master bedroom.  Crikey.  While everyone else is busy styling, accessorizing, and putting the finishing zhush on their spaces, I am busy re-enacting an episode of Hoarders.  Can’t bring one thing into this bedroom until paint is completed.  We are priming and priming and priming those super smooth walls.  The dark, glossy walls of my dreams are now my daily nightmare.  Seriously.  I would have put paint up in WK1 and called it good but this is where we were...

And here I am on Monday officially OVER it.  This is the part where I am cleaning the sanded walls.  I won't bore you with details but it involved many wipe downs, both dry and damp and dry again, many, many times to get rid of the dust on the surface.  F* these walls is the long and short of what I was thinking at this point.

Finally, some form of paint is going up on the walls!  Praise be to wine.  The mr. got the first coat of primer up last night.  Progress is progress, no matter how small.

By the way, if you have no idea what I am talking about then you need to catch up:  WK1, WK2, WK3, WK4.  The pros continue to make this ORC thing look easy, but this is what I have learned.  Doing a space in 6 wks on a tight budget is HARD.  My already healthy wine regimen is quickly becoming triathlon worthy and is helping me to power through or at least cope with the massive pile of stuff building up on and around my kitchen table.  So yes, back to Hoarders.

Keeping it real real over here

Not being able to bring things into the room, because of paintmaggedon, has led to a pile up of furniture and accessories everywhere.  And even for a naturally predisposed hoarder such as myself, this chaos is seriously cramping my style.  But enough with the sob story already.  I am seeing this thing through - so aside from basically living at Lowe’s and Home Depot, I have been finalizing art and getting my DIY swerve on while I wait for paint to dry.  Literally.  I am also well aware of the fact that I have yet to show any real progress shots of the room.  As I said folks, it will be a hair pulling, down to the wire right kinda show.  These snippets will have to suffice as evidence that I am, in fact, doing shit.  I also encourage you to follow me on Instagram for up to the minute reality tv.

Let’s take a look at what has been accomplished since last week:

Now I am off for a family jaunt this wknd, leaving the mr. behind with a rather long Honey Do list and then he is leaving me high and dry on Monday going into reveal week.  This is significant for many reasons, the primary one being that I will see the actual paint color for the first time on the walls when I get back on Sunday.  There is a chance that I may totally hate it.  Then what?!  Then there is the issue of moving everything back into the room on my own.  So basically, those super smooth walls that we have busted our asses on for 5 wks will be promptly destroyed by this crazed lady moving heavy furniture and wielding a hammer and drill frantically trying to hang pictures, hardware, mirrors, and baseboards.  Crikey is right!
